'EVOKE' Creator Jane McGonigal's TED 2010 Talk which is themed Gaming Can Make a Better World has caused quite a discussion around the world. She mentioned that "the average child within a strong gamer culture will have spent 10,000 hours gaming by the time he or she is age 21." and also gave her opinions why we had spend so much time. That's because we can get some important things from gaming: Urgent optimism, Social fabric, Blissful productivity, Epic meaning. And gamers tend to think that we're not as good in real life as we are in online games, says McGonigal. After watching this video, most people including some who don't play games seem to be encouraged. And as a gamer, we just feel a kind of proud that we never have before. McGonigal also showed us a portrait by a photographer named Phil Toledano on the speech and stated that "This is a classic gaming emotion. And this is the face that we need to see on millions of problem-solvers all over the world". It just made us believe that "that's us, by the way - have within us the power to save the world." This is a classic gaming emotion. If you are a gamer, you will notice a few nuances here, the crinkle of the eyes up, and around the mouth is a sign of optimism. And the eyebrows up is surprise. This is a gamer who is on the verge of something called an epic win. Quote form mmosite |
